What is the On-Farm Climate Action Fund (OFCAF)?The OFCAF is a federal initiative designed to assist farmers in adopting beneficial management practices (BMPs) that reduce greenhouse gas emissions and enhance soil health. It is administered in Newfoundland and Labrador by the Newfoundland and Labrador Federation of Agriculture (NLFA).

Are equipment purchases eligible for funding?Yes, but equipment purchases are capped at $40,000 and must be directly related to BMP implementation.

What is the minimum project cost?Projects must have a minimum eligible cost of $2,500 to qualify for funding.

Are existing practices eligible for funding?No. Only new or expanded BMPs on previously unserved acreage are eligible for funding.

Who is eligible to apply?Eligible applicants include: - Active agricultural producers in Newfoundland and Labrador - Community pastures - Indigenous farming associations Applicants must meet specific criteria, including having a valid Environmental Farm Plan, Premise Identification Number, and Farm Registration Number.

What types of costs are ineligible?Ineligible costs include: - Routine or previously implemented practices - Harvested or grazed cover crops - Non-renewable energy systems - Perimeter fencing not aligned with a grazing plan - Fertilizer and crop protection products

What is the applicant’s required contribution?Applicants must contribute at least 15% of the total project cost (10% for underrepresented or marginalized groups). Contributions may include in-kind support.

What level of funding is available?Applicants may receive up to 85% of eligible expenses. Underrepresented or marginalized groups may receive up to 90%. The maximum cumulative funding available per applicant across all OFCAF programs is $100,000 (from April 1, 2022, to March 31, 2028).

How do I apply?Applications must be submitted through the OFCAF-NL portal at www.acsnl.ca. A complete application includes all required documentation and project plans.

What is the application deadline?Applications for the 2025–2026 fiscal year must be submitted by October 31, 2025.

What are the reporting requirements?Final reports, including documentation and proof of expenditures, must be submitted by January 30, 2026. Projects may also be subject to site verification.

What is a Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE), and is it mandatory?What is a Knowledge Sharing Event (KSE), and is it mandatory? A KSE is an educational event (e.g., workshop, webinar) that supports the adoption of BMPs. Participation in at least one KSE per approved project is mandatory for funding eligibility.
